Health One Pharmaceuticals Inc., a City of Industry manufacturer of dietary supplements and drugs, has been shut down as part of a consent decree reached with the Department of Justice.
The consent decree followed allegations brought by the Food and Drug Administration that firm has delivered dietary supplements prepared, packed or held under conditions not meeting manufacturing regulations. It was also said to have delivered unapproved drugs.
Under the terms of the consent decree, Health One has been barred from operating until the company takes a number of steps to improve its compliance with federal law. In a statement, the Department of Justice said the company’s president, Richard S. Yeh, had agreed to shut the business down.
Yeh and Health One could not be immediately reached for comment.
Health One products included HerbalMax, described as “fast-acting alternative herbal medicine.”
“We have an unwavering commitment to ensuring that the dietary supplements in this country are safe and have been manufactured in accordance with federal law,”
said acting assistant attorney General Joyce R. Branda for the Justice Department’s Civil Division.
The complaint also alleged the defendants failed to meet dietary supplement manufacturing regulations by failing to conduct at least one appropriate test or examination to verify the identity of every dietary ingredient prior to using it.
Regulators further alleged the supplement labels do not include all federally required information and were consequently misbranded.
