A fake nursing school in Los Angeles has been shut down and has agreed to pay its cheated students a total of $500,000 in restitution.
The RN Learning Center created the illusion that it offered an accredited nursing program by holding graduations and classes while cashing in on $20,000 tuition from as many as 300 students, said California Attorney General Jerry Brown in a statement Wednesday.
The school targeted mostly Filipino-Americans already working in the health field, and students traveled to the Philippines for a month of clinical study in hospitals and prison, Brown said. Students took classes in anatomy, microbiology and learned to give sutures.
