The Information Services Department at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles was ranked among the best in the country, by Healthcare IT News, which publishes an annual list of the Best Hospital IT Departments in the U.S.
The award looks at the integration between hospitals and health systems, as well as the technology available to support physicians and hospital staff.
“This award affirms our goal that Children’s Hospital Los Angeles be a leader in the health care technology sphere, and the best part is knowing that programs we implement will dramatically impact our patients, their families, and our amazing caregivers,” said Steve Garske, CHLA senior vice president and chief information officer, in a company statement.
CHLA’s information services department has a number of goals for the coming year, including deploying a Cerner Oncology platform, which will integrate the department’s health records and allow doctors to electronically write pharmacy orders for chemotherapy. The hospital also plans to introduce an internal mobile app to allow the staff to communicate with the IS team and between hospital divisions.
“We have laid a strategy for the next three to five years: technology, process, people, and how it all works together. Whether we’re expanding the CHLA Health Network for the Los Angeles area and beyond, or developing better inpatient entertainment systems right here at the hospital so kids have richer content to access, our team is really moving the needle for CHLA,” said Dave Abbott, CHLA’s vice president of IT operations.
Healthcare IT News surveyed more than 3,300 hospital IT employees from 91 different hospitals, who answered workplace satisfaction questions about “day-to-day experience, workplace culture, senior management and leadership, professional development opportunities, pay and benefits.” Healthcare IT News worked with research partner HIMSS Analytics to award Best Hospital IT Department status to the top hospitals.
