Cedars-Sinai Medical Center has awarded $5.9 million in grants to assist the homeless and boost behavioral health.

The Beverly Grove hospital announced Aug. 1 it had donated the funds for the fourth consecutive year to community groups that work to strengthen the safety net needy residents of Los Angeles.

Much of the grant money went to support community health centers from the Los Angeles Christian Health Centers to the Saban Community Clinic to the Venice Family Clinic.

“The role of community health centers continues to grow in importance for L.A’s most vulnerable population,” said Jonathan Schreiber, chief community engagement officer at Cedars-Sinai, in a statement. “We are working to strengthen clinics’ operational efficiency and enhance the quality of care available to all Angelenos.”

The 2018 Cedars-Sinai community grants also including funding for psychiatric training to primary care providers, as well as programs to alleviate the opioid addiction crisis and to aid residents who are homeless.
