Avenda Health Inc., a biomedical device company based in Santa Monica, has closed a funding round of $3.3 million, according to a securities filing released April 11.

The company founded by a two Ph.Ds and an MD from UCLA sold $3,325,000 in securities to 18 investors, according to the Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

Avenda Health has developed a fiber-optic laser device to treat prostate tumors without compromising urinary or sexual function.

The medical device startup was launched in June 2017 by Shyam Natarajan, now its chief executive, and an adjunct professor in bioengineering at UCLA who had served as former program manager of the UCLA Business of Science Center.

It was co-founded by Brittany Berry-Pusey, its chief operating officer, and a co-founder of the UCLA center; and Dr. Leonard S. Marks, its chief medical officer, a professor of urology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
