The Los Angeles Business Journal’s index of largest local public companies rose for the week.
The weighted LABJ Stock Index closed up 4 percent to 197 for the trading week ended June 20. Gainers outpaced decliners 107 to 48, with seven companies unchanged.
The biggest gainer was Virco Mfg. Corp. of Torrance. Shares of the school and office furniture maker rose 27 percent to $2.65 after the company announced earnings that beat analyst expectations.
Also gaining was Westlake Village in-flight entertainment firm Global Eagle Entertainment. Shares rose 13 percent to $12.12 after the company announced a deal with airplane manufacturer Boeing Co. that could make Global Eagle’s in-flight Wi-Fi and entertainment systems a built-in feature on planes.
Among the biggest decliners was Glendale animation studio DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. Shares fell 12 percent to $24.50 after opening weekend box office sales for the studio’s sequel to “How to Train Your Dragon” fell below expectations.
Also declining was Korn Ferry International. Shares of the Century City staffing firm fell 7 percent to $28.69 as some investors took profits after a sustained increase in the stock price over the past year.
