The Los Angeles Business Journal’s index of the largest local public companies fell slightly for the week. The weighted LABJ index fell one percent to close at 237, with losers outpacing gainers 109 to 41. Six companies closed the week unchanged.
Among stocks trading above a dollar, Valencia’s Taitron Components Inc., a distributor of electronic components, was one of the week’s leading gainers. Shares rose 11 percent to close at $1.10.
Malibu toymaker Jakks Pacific Inc. was also among the week’s top gainers. Shares rose 11 percent to close at $9.73 Friday. The company announced this week that it was partnering with Manhattan Beach footwear firm Skechers USA Inc. to launch a new doll line based on Skechers’ Twinkle Toes shoes and a series of web videos based on the characters.
Santa Monica’s TrueCar Inc. was among the week’s losing stocks. Shares fell a whopping 38 percent for the week, closing at $6.87 Friday, one day after the company announced that it’s second-quarter and full-year revenue and earnings would fall short of the company’s guidance.
