The LABJ Stock Index fell 1 point to 239.

Gainers and Losers

On Assignment Inc. was Thursday’s biggest local gainer among stocks trading above $1 a share. Shares rose 7 percent on the day, closing at $44.39 one day after the company reported third-quarter earnings that beat analysts’ expectations.

Thursday’s biggest loser among stocks trading above $1 a share was MannKind Corp.

Shares fell 8 percent on the day, closing at $3.46.
