The Los Angeles Business Journal’s index of the largest local public companies rose for the week. The weighted LABJ index rose 2 percent to close at 234, with winners outpacing gainers 98 to 51. Eight companies closed the week unchanged.
Manhattan Beach-based footwear company Skechers USA Inc. was one of the week’s leading gainers among stocks trading above a dollar. Shares rose 22 percent to close at $89.66 after the company released its first quarter results, showing better-than-expected earnings and beating analyst expectations.
Cheesecake Factory Inc. also had a good week. Shares rose 9 percent to close at $52.98 after the company announced a 4 percent rise in same-store sales during the first quarter ended March 31.
Los Angeles supplement company Herbalife was among the week’s losing stocks. Shares fell 8 percent to close the week at $41.10.
