The Los Angeles Business Journal’s index of the largest local public companies was down for the week. The weighted LABJ index fell three percent to close at 217, with losers outpacing gainers 111 to 41. Six companies closed the week unchanged.
Among stocks trading above $1, Commerce furniture designer and manufacturer Nova Lifestyle Inc. was one of the week’s leading gainers. Shares were up 18 percent to close at $2.33.
Studio City’s Crown Media Holdings Inc. was also one of this week’s leading gainers. Shares rose 17 percent to close at $5.23 Friday. The company also hit a new 52-week high this week.
Monrovia AeroVironment Inc., which makes drones and electric-vehicle chargers, was among the week’s losing stocks. Shares of the company fell 15 percent for the week, closing at $20.37 after the company reported earnings that fell short of analysts’ expectations.
