The Los Angeles Business Journal’s index of the largest local public companies rose for the week. The weighted LABJ index climbed 1 percent to close at 219. Losers just outpaced gainers 82 to 72. Six companies closed the week unchanged.
Woodland Hills biotech firm ImmunoCellular Therapeutics Ltd. was one of the week’s leading gainers. Shares rose 39 percent to close at $1 on Friday after it received positive regulatory feedback from a European medical agency.
UTi Worldwide Inc., a Long Beach logistics company, also had a good week. Shares rose 18 percent to close at $13.88 after the company announced that it held “exploratory” talks to be acquired by DSV A/S, the Nordic region’s largest trucking company.
L.A. oil company BreitBurn Energy Partners was among the week’s losing stocks. Shares fell 31 percent to close the week at $10.29 after oil prices plunged to a five-year low.
