Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc.’s Culver City-based television arm is bolstering its reality TV portfolio with the acquisition of 32 Flavors, Alex Baskin’s production company.
The deal will bring Baskin’s portfolio of premium unscripted programming – including Emmy-nominated series “Vanderpump Rules,” “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” and “The Valley” – under Sony Pictures Television Inc.’s umbrella.
“(Baskin) is one of the most passionate and hardest-working people in this business, with an impressive track record of building durable, culture-driving franchises,” said Katherine Pope, president of SPT, in a news release.
Since its founding in 2023, 32 Flavors has churned out a range of widely popular content in reality TV and beyond, spanning documentaries, true crime, podcasts, talk and scripted development. Its line-up of forthcoming series includes Bravo reality show “Still Flipping Out” and Hulu’s “Love Thy Nader,” which the company joined for its second season.
SPT’s majority interest in 32 Flavors will strengthen the media powerhouse’s ability to “deliver high-impact, returnable formats,” Pope said, as the television market evolves.
Advising SPT on the deal was law firm Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton, headquartered in downtown. Aerin Snow, a partner in the firm’s corporate practice group based in Century City, said their client saw value in 32 Flavors’ consistency in content production and potential to scale across platforms.
“The transaction reflects continued investment in premium nonfiction and franchise-driven programming,” Snow told the Business Journal.
Partnering with SPT will help 32 Flavors continue to grow at a fast clip while sticking to its creative vision, Baskin said in a news release.
“Sony’s scale, track record, and talent-first approach allow us to build on that momentum at a greater level without compromising the integrity and entrepreneurial spirit that defines the company,” the producer said.
