The Los Angeles Sports Council has named L.A. business leader Alan Rothenberg interim chairman to replace former KPMG partner Scott London.

London resigned as Sports Council chairman after acknowledging his role in an insider trading case at KPMG.

The Los Angeles Sports Council is a civic non-profit that represents the region in bidding for the right to host major sporting events such as the Olympics, U.S. Olympic Trials and the NCAA Championships.

Rothenberg is founder and chairman of 1st Century Bank and chairman of Premier Partnerships, a Santa Monica sports and entertainment consulting company. He served as the Sports Council’s chairman between 2003 and 2011, and has been credited with helping to popularize U.S. soccer, including serving as the chairman of the 1994 World Cup and the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup. He will serve as the council’s interim chairman until regular board elections in the fall. He is also chairman of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce.

London was fired from accounting giant KMPGearlier this month and faces criminal and civil federal charges over his acknowledged involvement in insider trading in the stock of KPMG clients.
