Hooked Up: Gardena-based CPS Security Solutions, a security services firm, has acquired Duarte’s D&M Communications Inc., a maker of cabling systems for voice and data equipment. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Shot in Arm: Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in San Fernando has received a $500,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation, the philanthropic arm of New York-based Verizon Communications Inc. The hospital will use the grant to upgrade technology, increase patient records accuracy and conduct health care outreach for uninsured Californians.

Bank Investment: Broadway Federal Bank, an L.A.-based bank serving the Inglewood and South L.A.-area markets, has received a $1 million investment from DaVita Inc., a Lakewood, Colo.-based kidney care services provider. The investment is part of DaVita’s National Minority Bank Investment initiative.
New Consultancy: David Gershwin Consulting has opened in Los Angeles. The new firm, at 6230-A Wilshire Blvd., will specialize in government affairs, issue advocacy, media relations and crisis communication services.

Juiced Up: Monrovia-based AeroVironment Inc. has reached a deal with Nissan North America that the automaker will use the Monrovia company’s electric vehicle home-charging stations and installation services for the all-electric Nissan Leaf, which will go on sale in December. AeroVironment has estimated each home-charging station will range in cost from $500 to $1,000, and Nissan plans to roll out 5,000 Leafs for its first year.
