Brentwood-based private equity firm Kingswood Capital Management recently bought Kichler Lighting from Masco Corp., a wholesale building materials company headed in Michigan, for $125 million.

The newly purchased Ohio-based lighting company will merge with Progress Lighting, a South Carolina residential and light commercial decorative lighting business which Kingswood acquired back in February.

The merger will make way for “expanded distribution and service capabilities and a robust product catalog that is well positioned to serve customers across the homebuilder, trade, showroom, retail, and ecommerce sales channels,” according to a statement from Kingswood.

With a focus on middle market companies, Kingswood aims to make investments of around $50-$150 million in businesses with at least $100 million in revenue. It targets a number of sectors including health care services, retail and distribution. Notable companies in its portfolio include World Market and Turbo Wholesale Tires.

Alex Wolf, managing partner, expressed his support for the deal in a statement.

“We’re delighted to welcome Kichler into the Kingswood fold. By merging it with Progress Lighting, we’re able to bring the best of two storied brands to customers nationwide,” Wolf said.

Leadership for the new company draws from both Progress and Kichler executives. Former Progress Chief Executive Sean Veit will keep his title as chief executive for the combined company.

“With this merger, we look forward to preserving and enhancing the distinct positioning that the Progress and Kichler brands hold in the market,” Veit said in a statement.

Vijay Shankar, former Kichler president, will take on the role of executive chair, and both he and Veit will also serve on the company’s board of directors.

“Our leadership team looks forward to working thoughtfully through the integration to ensure that our customers are the greatest beneficiaries of this combination,” Vijay said in a statement.
