A USC alumnus has made a large gift to its Marshall School of Business to enhance programs and student opportunities there, the university announced Wednesday.

Michael R. B. Uytengsu, from the class of 1990, gave the school $4 million to create an endowed scholarship fund in his name. The gift is part of a university campaign to secure $6 billion or more in donations from individuals, foundations and corporations.

USC Marshall will name the first floor of Jill and Frank Fertitta Hall, the future home of its undergraduate program, in Uytengsu’s honor. Construction is expected to begin next month and be completed by the fall of 2016.

Uytengsu is a former investment banker who later joined his family’s food business and went on to orchestrate a succession of transactions in the U.S. snack food industry.

“Endowed scholarships ensure that we can attract talented students regardless of their financial situation, and the new building will enable undergraduate learning and research to flourish,” Marshall Dean James G. Ellis said in a statement.

Uytengsu’s gift is the second alumni gift to USC Marshall announced this month. William J. McMorrow made a donation of an unspecified amount to establish a global real estate program at the school.

Uytengsu’s brother, Wilfred (Fred) Uytengsu, from the class of 1983, recently gave $8 million to USC toward construction of the Uytengsu Aquatics Center. The donation will be used for the university’s aquatic sports teams.
