Northrop Grumman Corp. on Tuesday said that it was awarded a contract, valued up to $2.63 billion, to install information technology systems at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s new headquarters in Washington D.C.

The Los Angeles defense contractor, which plans to relocate its corporate headquarters to the Washington D.C. area next year, said the five-year contract will provide Homeland Security with a “top-level security and information platform for the department to execute homeland-security missions.” The contract has a potential five-year extension.

“Northrop Grumman has been a leading IT systems provider to the DHS since (the agency’s) inception in 2003, and our team brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this task order as a leading provider of IT solutions to the federal government,” said Linda Mills, president of Northrop’s Information Systems sector, in a statement.

Shares closed up 25 cents, or less than a percent, to $60.52 on the New York Stock Exchange.
