HNTB GROWS NATIONAL TUNNEL PRACTICE

HNTB announced the addition of four tunneling professionals to its growing national tunnel practice.

Luis Piek, PE, joined as principal tunnel engineer and will focus on expanding HNTB’s tunneling business in the West, and nationally, and serves as one of the key technical resources to the firm’s transportation and infrastructure clients across the U.S. Piek brings more than two decades of experience and is based in HNTB’s Oakland office.

Randy Jefferies has joined HNTB as an engineering project director and associate vice president in Salt Lake City. In this role, Jefferies will be responsible for leading complex transportation projects spanning a variety of transportation modes, including highways, transit, and active transportation. Among his notable projects as a program director, Jefferies oversaw the North Davis Mobility Program, which includes the $800 million West Davis Highway Design-Build project and the $525 million US-89 Progressive Design-Build project.

Henry Russell, PE, PG, has joined HNTB as director, tunnel resilience and rehabilitation.
In this new role, Russell will be an accomplished technical resource to clients and projects across the nation. Based in the Boston office, he brings more than four decades of experience in the design,inspection, evaluation brings nearly twenty years of experience in analysis, design and construction support for tunnels and major complex structures
delivered through design-bid-build method as well as alternative delivery methods, including design-build, P3, progressive design-build and others.

Ismail Karatas, Ph.D., P.E., has joined its national tunnel practice as senior technical advisor – geotechnical/ tunnels. In this new role, Karatas will be serving as a principal geotechnical engineer and technical resource. He is based in HNTB’s New York office in the Empire State Building and brings nearly twenty years of experience in analysis, design and construction support for tunnels and major complex structures delivered through design-bid-build method as well as alternative delivery methods, including design-build, P3, progressive design-build and others.
