KATHRYN EIDMANN
President; Chief Executive Officer; Helen & Morgan Chu Distinguished Chair
Public Counsel
In a single year, Los Angeles weathered catastrophic wildfires and a wave of aggressive federal immigration enforcement — and through both crises, Kathryn Eidmann positioned Public Counsel as a frontline defender of communities under threat.
Before stepping into Public Counsel’s top leadership role, Eidmann spent more than a decade directing innovative legal advocacy to expand opportunity for low-income communities in LA and nationwide, litigating major cases involving education equity, children’s rights, the criminalization of poverty, immigrants’ rights, and housing and homelessness. A respected civil rights lawyer, Eidmann earned a California Lawyer of the Year award for her victory in People v. Dueñas, a landmark decision limiting mandatory court fees for indigent criminal defendants.
