Braille Institute CEO Dimitri Kales has an ambitious goal to change the face of low vision support in the US and improve the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. Since Kales became CEO in 2022, Braille Institute has changed from a respected nonprofit providing free services for people with blindness or low vision on a mostly local level, to one that is making a difference on a national scale.
Kales led the development of a five-year strategic plan, called Mission Magnified, which aims to reach 200,000 people by 2030, 10 times the number Braille Institute served when it launched. He started Vision Support America to help the millions who are experiencing vision changes and who do not have access to support.
