Cedars-Sinai Health System recently awarded 169 grants totally $20 million to Los Angeles-area nonprofits.
The medical system targeted healthcare access, housing stability and food security when selected organizations for its grants. Some of these awards included $300,000 to the Los Angeles Food Policy Council, in support of its CalFresh initiative that delivers food to those in need and also of infrastructure for farmers markets, and $250,000 to Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County, which assists local residents in navigating programs such as Medi-Cal, CalFresh, Covered California and Medicare.
Other endeavors in food security that Cedars-Sinai supported include ALMA Backyard Farms, which supports urban farming, workforce training and is developing a new farm hub in Carson, as well as YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles’ FeedLA program.
Cedars-Sinai also provided funding to Comprehensive Community Health Centers, Watts Healthcare, Brilliant Corners, Housing Works and Planned Parenthood Los Angeles.
“These organizations are on the front lines of improving access to medical care for everyone as well as providing food and housing assistance,” said Andrea Iloulian, executive director of Grantmaking at Cedars-Sinai, in a statement. “This will help ensure vulnerable populations have the support and supplies they need to survive and thrive.”

The Port of Long Beach recently was awarded the 2026 Edmund G. “Pat” Brown Award.
Named after the former California governor, the award is given by the California Council for Environmental and Economic Balance to individuals or organizations who work to protect the environment while enhancing economic growth. The former governor was a founding member of that organization.
“The Port of Long Beach continues to prove to the world that ports can grow green, and this recognition by the California Council for Environmental and Economic Balance validates what we are doing and how we are doing it – thoughtfully, strategically and collaboratively,” said Port of Long Beach Chief Executive Noel Hacegaba.
