Letter from the Publisher
Josh Schimmels
Health care leaders in our region have, in recent years, been asked to do get particularly creative while accomplishing countless essential tasks make every day and we all owe them a debt of gratitude.
The importance of the leaders and teams who are running health care organizations and making key decisions to help improve our communities cannot be overstated. This section of the Los Angeles Business Journal is designed to honor the particularly outstanding leaders in health care for our region. These individuals, organizations and programs have made remarkable strides helping Los Angeles (and beyond) to provide outstanding levels of care and treatment while fighting to help us navigate through uncharted waters and beyond.
Included in this special section you are reading now are spotlights on the honorees we celebrated as part of our annual Health Care Leadership Symposium & Awards event on Wednesday, August 21st at the Biltmore Los Angeles.
Before launching the awards ceremony, the event brought together a diverse group of elite health industry insiders for a panel discussion about everything from providing to underserved populations to the biggest challenges the system is facing to the overall impact new protocols are having on Southern California, and much more.
The esteemed panel included insights from John Baackes (L.A. Care Health Plan); George Greene (Hospital Association of Southern California); Rod Hanners (Keck Medicine of USC); Johnese Spisso (UCLA Health); and Paul Viviano (Children’s Hospital Los Angeles).
During the award ceremony portion of the event, 13 inspirational honoree organizations and individuals were announced and are highlighted in this section. We applaud each of them, as well as the impactful collection of finalists, also recognized in these pages. Congratulations – and thank you – to all the great health care leaders in Los Angeles who play such an integral role in our lives and the lives of our families, friends and coworkers.
