ROBERT STONE
CEO
City of Hope
As CEO of City of Hope, one of the largest and most advanced cancer research and treatment organizations in the United States, Robert Stone is shaping the future of cancer care and research. He is someone whose vision has helped shape not only City of Hope, but the broader health care landscape. At a time when more than two million Americans will hear the words, “You have cancer,” Stone’s vision centers on ensuring more people can benefit from today’s breakthrough research and therapies, closing the gap between innovation and access at lifesaving speed. Stone’s 12-year leadership has transformed City of Hope from a regional institution into a system serving five major metropolitan areas and delivering promising clinical trials and breakthrough therapies to every location. Under his guidance, City of Hope’s Los Angeles campus has become a hub for groundbreaking research and clinical expertise, featuring two Good Manufacturing Practices facilities that enable rapid development of novel therapies. Stone has also positioned City of Hope as an international leader in CART and advanced cellular therapies, and its research has advanced precision medicine by applying genomic insights to develop more targeted therapies for patients. The organization’s pioneering work in bone marrow and stem cell transplants has set new standards for survivorship and is among the largest programs in the country with more than 20,000 procedures performed. Recognizing the importance of early detection, Stone spearheaded the creation of the Center for Cancer Prevention and Early Detection in Los Angeles, advancing research in technologies such as noninvasive blood tests and advanced imaging to identify cancers earlier.
