Dr. Kavitha Bhatia is president and chair of the Prime Healthcare Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit public charity dedicated to improving healthcare through its hospitals, education and charitable initiatives. She also serves as chief medical officer of strategy for Prime Healthcare, a nationally recognized health system with 51 hospitals and more than 360 outpatient locations across 14 states. Eighteen of Prime Healthcare’s hospitals are part of the not-for-profit Prime Healthcare Foundation, which supports the delivery of high-quality care and community service across the country. The Foundation, under Dr. Bhatia’s stewardship, holds more than $2 billion in assets and, together with Prime Healthcare, has provided over $14 billion in charity and uncompensated care since 2010. It continues to support local and global efforts focused on advancing health equity and medical education. In 2018, the Foundation contributed $80 million to establish the California University of Science and Medicine, a private, non-profit medical school in Southern California dedicated to preparing future physicians committed to serving underserved communities. As Prime Healthcare’s strategic lead, Dr. Bhatia works closely with system and hospital leadership to guide enterprise-wide initiatives that promote growth, operational excellence, and community impact. Under her leadership, Prime has continued to achieve national recognition, including 72 “100 Top Hospitals‚” awards and consistent rankings among the nation’s top health systems. Dr. Bhatia led Prime’s recognition in the Lown Institute Hospitals Index for Social Responsibility, where it ranked among the top ten health systems in the country for equity, value and outcomes.
