Not only did top 40 station KIIS-FM (102.7) hold on to the top spot in Los Angeles radio for the fifth month in a row, but listenership spiked.

The Clear Channel Communications Inc. station claimed a 6.1 percent share of listeners in May, up from a 5.8 percent share in April, according to rankings released Wednesday by Arbitron Inc.

Classic hits station KRTH-FM (101.1) and contemporary station KOST-FM (103.5) held on to the second and third place with 4.9 and 4.1 percent shares, respectively. This marks a decrease in listeners for KOST, down three-tenths of a point since April.

Fourth place news talk station KFI-AM (640) also saw a drop in listeners with a 4 percent share in May.

Pulling into fifth place was smooth adult-contemporary station KTWV-FM (94.7) with a 3.8 percent share. In April KTWV ranked ninth with a 3.3 percent share.

Pop-hit station KAMP-FM (97.1) dropped to a three-way tie for sixth place with a 3.7 percent share. On May 17 the CBS Radio station ended commercial-free Mondays, a promotion that began when KAMP replaced talk station KLSK in February 2009.
