Pop music station KIIS-FM (102.7) reclaimed the top spot in local radio ratings after spending two months in second place.

The perennial radio powerhouse claimed a 5.4 percent share of listeners in the month of January, according to the latest local rankings released Wednesday by Arbitron Inc. That was well ahead of second-place classic hits station KRTH-FM (101.1), which had a 4.7 percent share.

News-talk station KFI-AM (640) was third with a 4.1 percent share; adult contemporary station KOST-FM (103.5) was fourth with 3.9 percent; and Spanish music station KLVE-FM (107.5) was fifth with 3.6 percent.

KIIS has traditionally been the top-ranked station in Los Angeles, but in November the station owned by Clear Channel Communications Inc. was edged out for the No. 1 spot by KRTH.

And in December, KIIS was second to KOST, which traditionally dumps its normal programming to play holiday-themed music. That has usually given KOST a big boost in the ratings, and 2009 was no exception: In December KOST recorded a 5.5 percent share, well ahead of second-place KIIS, which had 4.7 percent.
