Professor of Dermatology (Clinical Scholar),
Associate Dean for Clinical Research
Keck School of Medicine of USC
April Armstrong serves as associate dean of clinical research at Keck School of Medicine at USC. She is also director of clinical research for the Southern California Clinical and Translational Research Institute (SC CTSI). In the Department of Dermatology at USC, she serves as vice chair, director of clinical trials and outcomes research, and director of the Psoriasis Program.
When the pandemic hit, Dr. Armstrong quickly mobilized various groups at USC to help investigators with their research plans and to assemble a process and personnel for collecting samples for USC’s institutional COVID-19 biorepository. The biorepository enables valuable research on COVID-19, advancing the understanding of the disease and treatment targets. This would not be possible without her leadership and hard work. In her own research, Dr. Armstrong studies severe skin diseases, particularly focusing on the appropriate use of systemic agents, comparative effectiveness research, and technology-enabled health care delivery.
