Dr. Susan Durham was the second female ever to lead a neurosurgery training program in the United States when she was named division chief of neurosurgery at the University of Vermont Larner School of Medicine in 2017.  Since 2020, she has served as division chief of pediatric neurosurgery at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), making her the first female surgical division chief at CHLA.  She also serves in leadership positions in national neurosurgical organizations, which gives her an important platform to raise awareness of gender issues in neurosurgery, one of the medical professions with the fewest number of female practicing physicians.
