Michael Roth serves as strategic lead for high-profile clients sued under California’s consumer protection laws and in complex business disputes. From enforcement actions by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and New York Attorney General, to class actions under California’s Unfair Competition Law and Telephone Consumer Protection Act, Roth is an accomplished business litigator who has successfully defended scores of consumer class actions and bet-the-farm cases, and often represents clients through the appellate process. Among his recent work, Roth leads the defense in various actions against RD Legal, an innovative financial services company that offers lump sum payments for portions of future settlement or judgment proceeds. Also, on July 16, 2020, Roth secured a victory for Old Navy in a false advertising class action. After having a demurrer sustained without leave to amend, Roth prevailed on a motion for reconsideration and a motion to dismiss a subsequent appeal.
