Emanate Health to Host Free, Virtual Conference

Emanate Health, the largest health care system in the San Gabriel Valley, will host the virtual “COVID-19 & the San Gabriel Valley” Conference, Saturday, October 24, 2020, at 9 a.m. offering the state of the virus in the valley and outlining the future of health care delivery in the region. Visit the Emanate Health website to register.

“For more than seven months, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on families throughout the Valley, as many try to manage work, school and health care disruptions in their households,” said Emanate Health Chief Executive Officer Robert H. Curry. “The ‘COVID-19 & the San Gabriel Valley’ Conference offers science-based tips to help our communities and families, as well as civic leaders and community organizations to remain safe and informed, while strongly urging everyone not to delay your health care.”

With the coronavirus still making headlines across the globe, Este Geraghty, MD, MS, MPH, GISP, Chief Medical Officer and Health Solutions Director, Esri, will trace the origins and presence of COVID-19 around the world, drilling down to the United States and the San Gabriel Valley. Dr. Geraghty works for Esri, the developer of the world’s most powerful mapping and analytics platform, which was utilized to help create the COVID-19 dashboard that Johns Hopkins University employs to quantify cases and deaths across the globe. Her presentation, which is titled, “COVID-19, Innovation and the Future,” will outline the importance of innovation during a crisis and how those learnings will influence the doctor-patient relationship of the future.

Emanate Health Infectious Disease Control physician, Sohanjeet Bassi, MD—in his presentation, “COVID-19: Becoming a Healthy San Gabriel Valley Now & Beyond”—will outline what government leaders, community organizations and the general public can do to remain safe from coronavirus with the arrival of the seasonal flu. This is happening while the pharmaceutical industry races against the clock to develop a COVID-19 vaccine to help hospitals worldwide bring the pandemic to a hopeful end.

Curry’s presentation, “The State of Emanate Health and Our Future,” will outline what the health system’s three facilities and emergency rooms at Inter-Community Hospital, Queen of the Valley Hospital, Foothill Presbyterian Hospital, Outpatient Services center, and primary & specialty locations are doing now and to prepare for the future to keep the one million people it serves safe and healthy in the face of the global pandemic.

“Scientists, doctors and public health experts say that novel coronaviruses, like COVID-19, may be with us for a long time.” said Emanate Health Chief Medical Officer Gurjeet Kalkat, MD. “At our virtual conference, we’ll offer the latest information on COVID-19 and what can be done to manage other coronaviruses at all levels. Emanate Health has already begun to treat the virus like other pre-existing conditions such as diabetes and heart problems, now that doctors have a much better handle on how best to care for our patients.” To participate in the free “COVID-19 & the San Gabriel Valley” virtual conference, visit emanatehealth.org/conference to register. Participants will be encouraged to submit questions before and during the event. Once registered, participants will receive a link to the conference and other event materials.
