SERVICE AREA
The Red Cross Los Angeles Region is part of a nationwide network of locally supported chapters and serves over 10 million people in Los Angeles, Inyo, Mono, and Kern Counties.
MISSION STATEMENT
The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.
COMMUNITY IMPACT
Last spring, local volunteers helped prevent needless tragedies in local vulnerable communities by installing nearly 4,000 smoke alarms in four weeks.
FUNDRAISING EVENTS
The American Red Cross Los Angeles Region has several fundraising events on the calendar in 2019. On March 9th, we will hold our annual gala honoring the humanitarians in our community who support our mission year-round. Corporate leaders, leading philanthropists, government officials and celebrities will join us at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in the heart of Los Angeles for our third annual Humanitarian Awards. Our highly anticipated Celebrity Golf Classic will be held on April 15, 2019. This annual tournament is a fun-filled, celebrity-packed day of drives, chips and putts at the prestigious Lakeside Golf Club. Players will join us on the links and stay for dinner and cocktails in the clubhouse, all to support the Red Cross and raise money for disaster relief efforts.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Red Cross volunteers offer help and hope and carry out 90% of our humanitarian work. We need volunteers, young and old, to contribute their unique backgrounds, talents and skills to our five lines of service for a day or a lifetime. Disaster response volunteers are needed to operate emergency shelters when large scale disasters strike or be those who respond to local home fires every day. Individuals can help recruit blood donors and assist with donation drives. The Red Cross serves the armed forces at Veterans Administrations and military hospitals, and as caseworkers to help families communicate with deployed personnel. We rely on nurses and mental health workers, those with marketing, communication and clerical skills and people with foreign language fluency to translate during Red Cross events or assist in international searches for persons living overseas or in war-torn countries. And every spring, the Red Cross brings communities together to install free smoke alarms at Sound the Alarm, Save a Life events.
GIVING OPPORTUNITIES
The generosity of donors empowers the Red Cross to fulfill our humanitarian goals around the globe, across the country or down the street. Disasters occur nearly every day – from residential fires to large scale events that affect whole communities. Individuals can donate money online, via text, by phone or mail. They can bestow one-time gifts, set-up monthly donations or arrange planned giving opportunities. People can also gift vehicles, stocks and bonds, airline miles, and reward points, or donate at point of purchase with many of our major retailers and partners. Individuals can also arrange online auctions, host Facebook or Crowdrise fundraisers or organize in-person events that raise money for the Red Cross. Businesses, large and small, can match employee contributions, encourage workplace giving challenges or join us as partners at various sponsorship levels that support multiple Red Cross initiatives and programs and disaster relief.
