Commercial real-estate firm Kidder Mathews has made an aggressive push into the Los Angeles market, opening four new offices in the area this year.

The firm’s newest location in Century City opened its doors at the end of last month. The firm has recruited 21 brokers and staff for the office, all of whom specialize in the West L.A. commercial market.

In February, Kidder Mathews opened a location in El Segundo. A Tri-Cities/Glendale office, run by veterans Bill Boyd and Linda Lee, followed in October. And the firm added a downtown location earlier in November.

Robert Thornburgh, executive vice president of brokerage, said Kidder Mathews saw an opportunity downtown when real-estate firm Charles Dunn Co. closed its brokerage in October. The firm is still operating as a property management group.

“They had a large location there and some brokers in downtown L.A.,” Thornburgh said. “We had been eyeing that location for quite some time.”

Thornburgh said the firm’s new recruits come from Charles Dunn, CBRE Group Inc. and Jones Lang LaSalle Inc.

Among the additions are real estate veterans Darrell Levonian, Justin Mendelson, Charles DeSantis, Tanel Harunzade, Kyle Gulock and Janet Neman. Levonian will lead the office; the others have all been named partners and executive vice presidents.

Kidder Mathews is a relatively new name in Los Angeles. The 50-year-old Seattle firm entered the market through the acquisition of industrial real-estate firm Heger Industrial last year. Thornburgh was Heger’s chief executive.
