Lotus Communications Corp. was established in 1962 and is one of the largest privately owned radio station groups in the United States. Lotus was founded by Howard A. Kalmenson with the purchase of KWKW, one of Los Angeles’ original heritage Spanish Language stations. Howard was awarded the Medallas de Cortez Lifetime Achievement Award from Radio Ink honoring his long record of dedication and commitment to Spanish-language radio.
James Kalmenson, son of Howard, is an Executive VP of Lotus and General Manager of three Los Angeles radio stations. He continues to fulfill the legacy of his father and has enabled Lotus to partner with many sports teams as their Spanish play-by-play broadcasters, including the Dodgers, Lakers, Rams, Angels and Galaxy. In 2004, Jim partnered with ESPN, making Lotus as an affiliate of ESPN Deportes Radio, making KWKW the flagship station for ESPN Deportes Radio and enabled several Lotus stations to be the ESPN Deportes affiliate stations. Howard and Jim remain committed to serving the both the Hispanic and Persian communities.
