Los Angeles shoppers plan to spend $688 on average on holiday purchases this year, according to a report released today by Accenture Consulting.
That puts them in the middle range of the 15 U.S. markets studied. New York City came in highest with a average expected spend of $825. Austin, Texas, came in at $465, the lowest planned expenditure.
The study, conducted by Accenture in September, surveyed 500 people in each market who had purchased an item for personal use online or in a store in the last six months.
It did not include a comparison to year’s spending, but about 46 percent of Angelenos surveyed this year said they planned to spend more than they did last year, according to Accenture spokeswoman Zoey Farooq.
