‘Handmaid’s Tale’ Boosts Hulu Subscription Signups
Hulu’s average daily sign-ups are up 98 percent since March, after its show “The Handmaid’s Tale” won eight Primetime Emmy Awards, reports The Hollywood Reporter. In that same period, Hulu has broken its record for daily sign-ups seven different times.
After abandoning its plans to launch a subscription video-on-demand business earlier this year, IAC-owned streaming video site Vimeo announced on Wednesday that it’s acquiring the live video streaming platform, Livestream, and launching its own live streaming product, Vimeo Live, reports TechCrunch. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed and the deal is expected to close early in the fourth quarter. Vimeo said that it’s also the largest acquisition in its history.
Cloud9 Esports Raises $18.7 Million
Cloud9 Esports Inc. raised $18.7 million from 21 investors, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The company fields e-sports teams for video games including “League of Legends,” “Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare,” “Counter-Strike: Global Offensive,” “Dota 2” and “Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft.”
