City of Los Angeles Launches Cyberattack Warning Center

L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti on Tuesday announced the launch of the Los Angeles Cyber Lab, a public-private data-sharing center for alerting local businesses and residents to cyberattacks, reports the Business Journal. Cyber Lab was formed in partnership with Cisco Systems Inc. of San Jose. The organization will alert small- and medium-sized business partners to attacks in real time and also provide larger businesses with automated updates to their cyberdefense systems.

US Government Demands Details on Visitors to Anti-Trump Website Hosted by DreamHost

The U.S. government is seeking to unmask every person who visited an anti-Trump website, hosted by downtown’s DreamHost, in what privacy advocates say is an unconstitutional “fishing expedition” for political dissidents, reports The Guardian. The Department of Justice served the hosting company with a search warrant for every piece of information it possessed that was related to a website that was used to coordinate protests during Donald Trump’s inauguration.

UCLA Extension Creates Innovation Lab Program

UCLA Extension announced on Tuesday that it is launching a membership program called the Silicon Beach Innovation Lab, where it will provide networking opportunities, hackathons, webinars to entrepreneurs and professionals, reports SoCal Tech. The program aims to provide members with access to executives and founders through webinars and special events, as well as projects in collaboration with tech companies and is only open to certificate students enrolled in digital technology courses at UCLA Extension.
