After a five-decade hiatus, passenger rail service will return to L.A.’s congested Westside on May 20, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced Thursday that the 6.6-mile, $1.5-billion extension of the Expo Line to Santa Monica will begin carrying passengers on that date.
The 15-mile ride from Santa Monica to Downtown will take about 46 minutes, providing what Metro officials describe as an “alternative to morning and evening rush hours” on the 10 Freeway.
Trains on the Expo line will run every 12 minutes for most of the day. Metro officials estimated the line will handle about 64,000 boardings on an average weekday by 2030. The first half of the line, between Culver City and downtown Los Angeles, sees about 30,000 boardings per day.
