A place of business for a company in South Gate that spent decades stripping chemicals out of steel barrels – allowing those toxins to go into the ground – is now a superfund site. And on Tuesday it was announced that 40 companies, mostly former customers of the Cooper Drum Co., has agreed to pay $22 million to clean the groundwater there.
