The gateway to the Pacific has launched dreams made of silicon and stardust, but it’s not cheap to live where the continent ends.
According to Forbes’ 2015 list of the most expensive Zip codes, California claims 12 of the top 25, with the Los Angeles area accounting for four.
In Hidden Hills, a gated community whose residents include Kim Kardashian, Caitlyn Jenner, Britney Spears and Justin Bieber, the median price for a house is $5.07 million, which makes the 91302 Zip code No. 9 on the national list and the L.A. area’s most expensive.
In Beverly Hills’ 90210, the median home price tops $4.5 million, which made it No. 14 on the list and slightly more expensive than Santa Monica, which came in at 17. There, the median price of a home is $4,228,951.
At No. 25, Bel Air’s 90077 Zip code claims a median home price of $4,004,563.
But even with 7-figure prices, homes were comparably cheaper in Southern California than the Bay Area. In Atherton, Calif., located on the northern peninsula of the San Francisco peninsula, the median home price was $10.6 million over the summer — the most expensive ZIP code for three years running, according to Forbes.
The list, based on median home price data for more than 29,500 zip codes, was compiled by Altos Research’s over a 90-day period ending Oct. 9.
