John Lennon’s Gibson acoustic guitar sold over the weekend at Julien’s Auctions on Wilshire Boulevard for a record $2.41 million, CNBC reports. It was originally estimated to sell at around $600,000 to $800,000.
Lennon bought the guitar in 1962 and used it to write hits for the Beatles, including “I Want to Hold Your Hand” and “Love Me Do.” However, it went missing and hadn’t been seen for more than 50 years until a novice musician found it.
