Video distribution services company Vubiquity has purchased Juice Worldwide to bolster its online video distribution capabilities.
The deal for the Toronto company, the latest in a series of acquisitions, brings a technology package to help Vubiquity better format, license and track digital video files for distribution on iTunes, Google, Amazon and Netflix. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Juice Worldwide will retain its 50 employees and continue to operate as an independent brand that is wholly owned by Vubiquity.
“We’ve expanded significantly in the over-the-top space. Juice brings great additional OTT expertise,” said Vubiquity Chief Executive Darcy Antonellis, adding that Juice’s status as a preferred vendor for several over-the-top video platforms was especially attractive.
Content producers such as Turner Broadcasting and Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. use Vubiquity’s services to make sure their videos are properly formatted, licensed and tracked as they are circulated to different media outlets. Vubiquity has been expanding in recent years beyond traditional cable and satellite distribution channels towards providing technical services for online video streaming channels.
After the company received a $100 million investment in 2012, led by private equity firm the Carlyle Group, it bought British video-on-demand website OnDemand and customizable video-on-demand storefront FilmFlex Movies. With the Juice purchase, Vubiquity has distribution partnerships with about 1,500 media outlets worldwide.
