Eisner Targets Syndicated TV

Media mogul Michael Eisner is launching a new venture focused on syndicated TV shows.

The former Walt Disney Co. chief executive’s company Tornante will partner 50-50 with Maryland’s Sinclair Television Group, owner of 162 independent stations.

Headquartered in Los Angeles, the new company, Tornante-Sinclair, will develop talk shows, judge shows, quiz shows and comedies.

“Our intent is to pair our expertise in developing content with their distribution capabilities to create tremendous new opportunities for both parties,” Eisner said in a statement.

They will make original programming for local stations – known in the television industry as first-run syndication – an area of the business where they see growth potential.

Tornante is behind the animated Netflix series “Bojack Horseman” and the syndicated court show “Judge Faith.”

Eisner formed Tornante in 2005 after leaving Disney and the company’s various properties include The Topps Company, Inc., Omaze, AirTime and new media studio Vuguru.
