The political action committee of the Valley Industry & Commerce Association has endorsed Carolyn Ramsay in the May 19 race for City Council District 4 representative.
The endorsement on Tuesday came on the same day that Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti also announced his support for Ramsay in her bid to replace her former boss, Councilman Tom LaBonge, in the district that stretches from the Miracle Mile to Sherman Oaks.
Ramsay, the former chief of staff to LaBonge, and David Ryu, a health care executive, were the top two vote getters from a field of 14 candidates in the February primary.
The VICA PAC cited Ramsay’s experience working for LaBonge as reason for giving its support. VICA is a business advocacy group based in Sherman Oaks.
“Carolyn Ramsay has the experience necessary to hit the ground running upon taking office,” said VICA President Stuart Waldman in a prepared statement.
Garcetti, in an appearance at Ramsay’s campaign office on Melrose Avenue, also brought up her time working at City Hall.
“You need somebody with experience that knows how to get things done, but the backbone to sometimes say, ‘No, my constituents need something different,’” Garcetti was quoted in the Los Angeles Times. “And Carolyn Ramsay will be that voice.”
Ryu, an executive with L.A. non-profit health provider Kedren Acute Psychiatric Hospital and Community Health Center, has received the support of Los Angeles Councilman Bernard C. Parks and the Los Angeles County Democratic Party.
