Troubled Koreatown Karaoke Bar an Election Issue

Even City Council President Herb Wesson, a longtime advocate for Koreatown’s bar and restaurant scene, has recently turned against La Defence, a Wilshire Boulevard nightclub that a city zoning administrator concluded is a drain on police resources, citing two rape reports and a handful of assault cases. Wesson’s initial support of the club is an issue in the March 3 election, because Koreatown activist Grace Yoo, now running against Wesson, said her opponent should have spoken out much sooner against La Defence, the Los Angeles Times reports.
