En Pointe Technologies, a Gardena information technology firm that sells Microsoft products, has won a 5-year, $72 million contract to provide cloud-based software to all of Los Angeles County’s 30-plus departments.
The county previously maintained 15 separate software contracts with Microsoft related to its software. En Pointe will step in and deal directly with the Redmond, Wash., software maker on behalf of the county.
Microsoft’s cloud-based Office 365 products, including SharePoint, Lync and OneDrive, will now be used by100,000 county employees.
“Using mobile devices, sheriff deputies can access information from their patrol cars, case workers can access files during a foster home visit and a food inspector can file a report directly from a remote location,” Richard Sanchez, the county’s chief information officer, said in a statement.
The county’s data will now be hosted on Microsoft’s cloud servers. Sanchez said Microsoft’s compliance with federal criminal justice and health insurance standards played a major factor making the switch.
By funneling its enterprise agreement through En Pointe and having the company maintain its IT needs, the county expects to save $2.5 million annually after the first year.
