In Thursday trading, the Dow Jones industrial average closed up 64 points to 16,028.
The Nasdaq rose 39 points, or 1 percent, to 4,241.
The S&P 500 rose 11 points to 1,830.
The LABJ Stock Index rose more than 1 point to 186.
