In Thursday morning trading, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 178 points, or 1 percent, to 14,981.
The Nasdaq rose 56 points, or 1.5 percent, to 3,734.
The S&P 500 rose 21 points, or 1 percent, to 1,677.
