Iconic fashion doll Barbie will begin cruising the world with her young fans next year aboard the Royal Caribbean International cruise line, Mattel Inc. announced Monday.
The El Segundo toy company has partnered with the Miami cruise company to create a vacation experience for young girls centered on the popular doll.
As early as January, Royal Caribbean cruise liners will make Barbie movies available for viewing on stateroom televisions and begin offering kids Barbie-centric activities as part of the company’s schedule of youth programs.
However, for girls who want more Barbie than is complimentary, Royal Caribbean will begin offering a vacation package – the Barbie Premium Experience – to girls ages four to 11 for $349 extra per girl. The package provides young cruise passengers with a new Barbie doll and a Barbie-themed stateroom, complete with a pink blanket, pillowcase, toothbrush and toiletries bag, which the girls can take home. Girls also get an invitation to activities outside the typical children’s programming, such as a tea party, fashion show and dance class during the cruise.
Royal Caribbean will debut the Barbie cruise experience on a few of its ships in January, before rolling it out to all 22 ships in the company’s global fleet by March.
