Walt Disney Co. on Thursday said that it plans to open two stand-alone stores offering branded baby goods, with the first Disney Baby store is set to open at the Americana at Brand mall in Glendale next year.

Disney Baby stores will feature apparel, toys and personal care items. The Burbank Entertainment giant which already operates a chain of Disney Stores offering general branded merchandise, sold $9 billion worth of Mickey Mouse-related merchandise last year alone.

A site for the second store has not been announced.

Disney’s consumer products division, which accounts for more than 5 percent of annual revenue, sells toys, clothing and other merchandise featuring characters from new films and classics such as Mickey Mouse.

Global retail sales of “Mickey Mouse and Friends” merchandise on track to generate $9 billion, and the incremental retail space devoted to “Cars 2” in addition to the already large “Cars” line, according to division Chairman Andy Mooney.

“We’ve not only grown the number of Disney franchises from only two in the year 2000 to 13 in 2011, but classic franchises have not suffered because of it, Mooney said in a statement.

Shares closed up 14 cents, or less than 1 percent, to $39.37 on the New York Stock Exchange.
