CENTRAL AREA

LOS ANGELES

Game On: Nival, a Moscow-based developer of computer and online games, has opened an office in Los Angeles just north of the Beverly Center. The new office, at 458 N. Croft Ave., will focus on North American operations and expansion into South and Central America.

Equity Financing: Response Genetics Inc., a developer of molecular diagnostic tests for cancer, has agreed to sell 1.18 million shares of its common stock in a registered direct public offering to certain institutional investors. Response, based in Los Angeles west of the USC campus, expects to raise around $2.2 million, which will go to general corporate purposes.

LOS FELIZ

Healthy Boost: Philanthropists and longtime supporters Marion and John E. Anderson have given $50 million to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles for a new state-of-the-art building at the Los Feliz campus. The new building will open its doors July 10 as the Marion and John E. Anderson Pavilion.

TORRANCE

Canadian Pickup: Motorcar Parts of America Inc., a Torrance provider of remanufactured automotive alternators and starters, has acquired Ontario, Canada’s Fenwick Automotive Products Ltd. in a stock deal valued at $5 million. Fenwick makes and distributes new and remanufactured private-label and branded aftermarket auto parts. (See page 6.)

WESTSIDE

CULVER CITY

Checking In: Hersha Hospitality Trust, a Philadelphia-based owner and operator of upscale hotels across the United States, has acquired the 260-room Marriott Courtyard Westside in Culver City for $47.5 million. The hotel, which was renovated and reopened in 2008, is Hersha’s first property in Los Angeles.

New Wave: Ocean Media Inc., a Huntington Beach media planning and buying agency, has opened Ocean Media/L.A. in Culver City. The new office, at 6041 Bristol Parkway, will be overseen by Executive Vice President Jay Langan.

WESTWOOD

Automotive Deal: Gores Group LLC, a Westwood private equity firm, has partnered with management to acquire Greenville, S.C.’s Sage Automotive Interiors Inc. from an affiliate of Azalea Capital LLC, a Greenville investment bank. Sage provides specialty fabric materials to auto makers. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

SAN FERNANDO VALLEY

SHERMAN OAKS

New Shop: Sports Authority, an Englewood, Colo.-based sporting goods retailer, has opened a store in Sherman Oaks. The new outpost is in the Westfield Fashion Square mall at 13730 Riverside Drive.
